What is a Trip Amplifier?

A trip amplifier is defined as a device that allows an Analog signal to be converted to a Digital output. The digital output controls the variation of a physical unit in a system measured by temperature sensors or normalized signals and operates when the measured value goes outside predetermined limits, energizing or de-energizing the relay controlling devices like valves and actuators.

Datexel manufacture two different DIN Rail Trip Amplifiers. The DAT5024 and the DAT5028. The DAT5024 is a fixed input unit where the customer must specify the input such as Thermocouple, RTD, mA, mV, Resistance, Voltage and there is also the option to have one or two relay outputs. The DAT5028 is a Superior Trip Amplifier wheres it's input is configurable and it provides an analog output such as Volts or 4-20mA. The DAT5028 also has a local display and up to four relay outputs. Another feature that the DAT5028 has over the DAT5024 is the configuration. It is PC Programmable and DIP switch configurable.
