The loop powered isolator DAT511 is a passive 0 20 mA or 4 20mA current loop isolator. It is designed to isolate the analog 4 20mA instrument signal from a field instrument to a control room piece of equipment, such as a flow meter to a PLC.
Do I need a Loop powered Isolator? If you are asking that question then probably you do need to install one. Indication of need to install a Loop Powered Isolator is the field equipment works locally with a multimeter but when connected to the control room the reading is incorrect. The reason for this error is most likely that the ground on the field instrument is at a different potential to the ground in the control room which then causes a ground loop error. Installing a DAT511 Loop Isolator removes the ground loop effect and floats the output which then can be tied to the control room equipment that has a different ground. It is good practice to always use Isolated signal conditioning equipment.
The converter is a passive isolator. This means that the DAT511 employs the measurement signal to power itself, so it does not require any external power supply.
The DAT511 is in compliance with the standard 89/336/EEC on the Electromagnetic Compatibility.
It is housed in a plastic enclosure of 17 mm thickness suitable for DIN rail mounting in compliance with EN-50022 and EN-50035 standards.
